Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

1. Introduction

Welcome to S Noter. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how S Noter handles your information. Unlike traditional note-taking applications, S Noter is designed with a “Privacy-First” architecture, meaning your notes never reside on our servers.

2. Data Collection and Storage

  • Notes and Content: All notes, folders, and text created within S Noter are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB technology. We do not have access to your notes.
  • Encryption Keys: Your data is protected using AES-GCM encryption. The encryption keys are derived from your 4-digit PIN and stored only in your browser’s local storage. We cannot see, store, or recover your PIN or encryption keys.
  • Personal Information: We do not require you to create an account with us. However, if you choose to use the Google Drive Sync feature, we access your Google Email address solely for authentication purposes.

3. Third-Party Integrations

  • Google Drive API: If you enable Cloud Sync, S Noter requests permission to access its own hidden folder on your Google Drive. It creates a file named SNoterBackup.json. We do not have permission to read any other files in your Google Drive.
  • Firebase: We use Firebase for Google Authentication and hosting. Firebase may collect basic device identifiers and usage logs to ensure service stability.
  • Google Analytics: We may use anonymous analytics to understand app performance and improve user experience. No personally identifiable information (PII) is shared during this process.

4. Data Security

We implement high-standard security measures by performing all encryption and decryption operations locally on your machine. However, the security of your data also depends on you:

  • Protecting your device from unauthorized access.
  • Maintaining the secrecy of your 4-digit PIN.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Since we do not store your data on our servers, we do not “retain” it. Your data stays on your device until:

  • You manually delete it.
  • You clear your browser’s cache/site data.
  • You uninstall the PWA.

6. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to update this policy at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting the updated policy within the app.
